Positive Indications from Smoke-free Environments Law Change - Evaluation Studies to Date
The Ministry of Health has published
The Smoke is Clearing
, an Anniversary Report summarising initial data from several studies evaluating the impacts of the first nine months of the Smoke-free Environments Amendment Act 2003, which introduced 100% smoke-free indoor workplaces and hospitality venues from 10 December 2004.
An
anniversary report of data
collected by non-governmental organisations is also available on the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation website.
Three evaluation reports are also available, which explore impacts on public attitudes, exposure to second-hand smoke in workplaces and bars, and bar managers' perceptions. See the

Tobacco Trends 2006: Monitoring Tobacco Use in New Zealand (Dec 2006)
Tobacco Trends 2006
(available on the Ministry of Health website) provides robust estimates of the prevalence of tobacco use in New Zealand. These estimates are updated annually and trends are presented where possible. Estimates are broken down by gender, ethnic group, age group and smoker type.
