After the Smoke has Cleared: Evaluation of the Impact of a New Smokefree Law - Outstanding Issues and Recommendations and the Ministry of Health's Response (Dec 2006)
A report by the authors of After the Smoke has Cleared: Evaluation of the Impact of a New Smokefree Law with the outstanding issues and recommendations, and the Ministry of Health's response to it.

Positive Indications from Smoke-free Environments Law Change - Evaluation Studies to Date
The Ministry of Health has published The Smoke is Clearing, an Anniversary Report summarising initial data from several studies evaluating the impacts of the first nine months of the Smoke-free Environments Amendment Act 2003, which introduced 100% smoke-free indoor workplaces and hospitality venues from 10 December 2004.

An anniversary report of data collected by non-governmental organisations is also available on the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation website.

Three evaluation reports are also available, which explore impacts on public attitudes, exposure to second-hand smoke in workplaces and bars, and bar managers' perceptions. See the Smokefree law research and evaluation page for more.

Tobacco Trends 2006: Monitoring Tobacco Use in New Zealand (Dec 2006)
Tobacco Trends 2006 (available on the Ministry of Health website) provides robust estimates of the prevalence of tobacco use in New Zealand. These estimates are updated annually and trends are presented where possible. Estimates are broken down by gender, ethnic group, age group and smoker type.

Legal Party Pills (Dec 2006)
Information regarding the process to be undertaken following the EACD's recommendation to classify BZP, phenylpiperazine and related substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 can be viewed in the party pills section. Please note this consultation process has been extended until 23 March 2007.

Pictorial Health Warnings (Nov 2006)
Cabinet has approved the use of 14 pictorial health warnings to go on the outside of cigarette packets.

Review of the Smoke-free Environments Regulations 1999: Health Warnings on Tobacco Products - Consultation Document (May 2006)
The Ministry of Health is inviting submissions on a consultation document concerning health warnings on tobacco products sold in New Zealand. Submissions are due by 5pm Tuesday 13 June 2006.

National Drug Policy 2006-2011 Consultation (Apr 2006)
Submissions are being sought on the National Drug Policy 2006-2011 consultation document. Submissions close 9 June 2006. The public consultation meeting timetable is also available.

National Drug Policy Discretionary Grant Fund (Mar 2006)
