Strengthening Drug Education in School Communities: Best Practice Handbook for Design, Delivery and Evaluation Years 7-13 (www.myd.govt.nz) (2004)

The Best Practice Handbook for Design, Delivery and Evaluation Years 7-13 is for principals, health teachers, drug education providers and funders of drug education. In addition A Practical Guide provides a quick reference tool. The aim is to strengthen the effectiveness of the curriculum-based approach to drug education.

Effective Drug Education for Young People: A Literature Review and Analysis (www.myd.govt.nz) (2003)

As part of the Government's Action Plan on Alcohol and Illicit Drugs, a literature review was commissioned. It covered drug education for young people, families and communities. Its purpose was to identify and encourage evidence-based best practice for drug education.

Government response to Health Committee report on its enquiry into the public health strategies related to cannabis use and the most appropriate legal status (www.parliament.nz) (2003)

The Committee has made a number of recommendations about cannabis and these affect the policies and practices of various Government agencies. (See below for the Health Committee's report.)

Cannabis: Information relating to the debate on law reform (2001)

The Parliamentary Library produced this background paper for Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff. The Library provides an impartial information service to such people and is not generally open to the public. The paper covers health effects, usage rates, particular population groups at increased risk of harm, other uses of cannabis and international law reform. Guidelines for Recognising, Assessing and Treating Alcohol and Cannabis Abuse in Primary Care (www.nzgg.org.nz) (Jul 1999)

This guideline deals primarily with problem consumption of alcohol and, to a lesser extent with cannabis, two of the most commonly-used drugs in New Zealand.

Inquiry into the public health strategies related to cannabis use and the most appropriate legal status (www.parliament.nz) (1998)

The Health Committee of the 45th Parliament conducted an inquiry into the mental health effects of cannabis, and made 18 recommendations to the Government. One recommendation suggested that the Government review the appropriateness of existing policy on cannabis and its use, and reconsider the legal status of cannabis.

The aim of Cannabis: The Public Health Issues 1995-1996 is to improve health by reducing cannabis-related harm. It contains a range of information about cannabis use in New Zealand, and public health issues.

Cannabis and Health in New Zealand seeks to clarify what is known about the health effects and health implications of cannabis use in New Zealand. The statement is supported by peer reviewed international research. Much of the research referred to in this document was presented at the Cannabis and Health conference in Wellington, New Zealand in October 1993.
