Committees

New Zealand has several committees with key roles in relation to drug policy and classification.

Ministerial Committee on Drug Policy (MCDP)

The Ministerial Committee on Drug Policy (MCDP) is charged with reviewing progress in implementing the NDP, and deciding which new policy initiatives should be implemented.

Inter-Agency Committee on Drugs (IACD)

The Inter-Agency Committee on Drugs (IACD) ensures that policies and programmes developed by government agencies are consistent and mutually supportive. The IACD also makes recommendations to the MCDP on new policy initiatives.

National Drug Policy Discretionary Fund

The
National Drug Policy Discretionary Grant Fund is jointly managed by the Interagency on Drugs (IACD) and the Ministerial Committee on Drug Policy (MCDP)

Expert Advisory Committee on Drugs (EACD)

The Misuse of Drugs Amendment Act 2000 (the Act) established the Expert Advisory Committee on Drugs (EACD) to provide expert advice to the Minister of Health regarding drug classification issues. Read this section for information on how drugs are classified.
