Strategies and Action Plans

In New Zealand the National Drug Policy is the guiding document for policy and practices aimed at minimising drug-related harm in the community.

This page introduces four of the main intersectoral action plans and strategies supported by the National Drug Policy.

Action Plan on Alcohol and Illicit Drugs (2004)

The overall aim of the action plan, which is consistent with the National Drug Policy’s goal, is to minimise harm caused by alcohol and illicit drug use to individuals, families, and communities.

Methamphetamine Action Plan (2003)

Methamphetamine is one of New Zealand’s significant illicit drug issues. Actions to deal with methamphetamine have, to date, been carried out by individual departments and non-government organisations with some co-operation. However, this plan initiates a ‘whole of government’ approach to the problem.

National Alcohol Strategy (2001)

The National Alcohol Strategy has been designed to both complement and extend the National Drug Policy. It focuses on minimising alcohol-related harm to individuals, families and society.
